What it’s really like to live in an SB Homes’ property — told by Ben and Mark

We asked our clients Ben Greaves and Mark Jones to share their experience of buying a new home from us…

Describe the property you bought in 100 words:

Our house is a modern four-bedroom property on the canal side in Slaithwaite.

The exterior of the house is built with beautiful stone, and the site perimeter is lined with a dry stone wall.

On the lower floor is an open plan kitchen/living/dining room, and the galley-style kitchen provides a stunning focal point on entry.

The middle floor of the property holds a good size double bedroom, main bathroom and second living room.

Upstairs is our master bedroom with ensuite, plus another large double bedroom. The top floor sits within the eaves, which adds plenty of character to the space.

Why did you choose to buy a new home over an older property?

A new home gave us the opportunity to build a property to our specific requirements.  We were able to choose from a wide variety of options and extras, resulting in a space which was perfect as soon as we received the keys.

Having previously owned an old property, we were also keen to save costs on gas and electricity bills. Now that we’re in the new house, we can really see a huge reduction in these costs, especially over the winter period just gone.

What were the deciding factors when buying your home?

When we were looking at potential properties to buy, finding somewhere within easy reach of local amenities was a must. The village of Slaithwaite was a massive plus. It has a great choice of bars, restaurants and takeaways, plus there are plenty of stores for food shopping.

Another must was the train station. We can be in Manchester City centre in just thirty minutes and Huddersfield town in six minutes. And we now have just one car which is a big cost saving!

In regards to quality, we really do like that luxury feeling. Having looked around other new builds we found that many lacked finesse, and fixtures and fittings felt cheap and flimsy.

That’s not the case with SB Homes! From opening the front door, to turning on the dishwasher, it really does feel well put together.

Did you make any bespoke choices within your property?

Right from the start, Sophie helped us with any changes or additions we wanted to make.

One of the biggest adjustments was turning the planned spindle staircase to a central glass wall.

We worked with SB Homes’ architect to create a stunning staircase, really giving the wow factor when you first walk through the door.

And as part of the purchase, we were provided with plenty of options to create our perfect house. The kitchen alone had more than 50 worktops to choose from, and the bathroom tile choices had options for everyone.

What’s your favourite room in your new home and why?

We really love the lower floor in the house.  The room is so big that it can be used as a living room, dining room and kitchen, plus there’s still space for the table football table.

The tri-fold doors are a wonderful feature which links the indoor space to the garden.  All in all, it’s a brilliant space for entertaining guests.

Would you recommend SB Homes?

We would absolutely recommend SB Homes to anyone. The buying process was professional and any communication we had with Sophie was, and is, easy. We really do feel lucky to be in our home.
